What cookies this site sets, what each one is for, and how to change your mind at any time.
Your choice
When you first arrive you are asked whether to accept non-essential cookies. Accept and decline carry equal weight, and the site works exactly the same either way. Nothing non-essential loads until you actively accept, so declining is the state you start in rather than one you have to reach.
Essential cookies
These are always set, because without them the site cannot function. They do not track you.
- Your cookie choice. Records whether you accepted or declined, so we stop asking. Expires after one year.
- Security tokens. Short-lived values that protect the contact and sign-up forms from abuse.
- Session storage. Records that you have already seen the introductory prompt, so it does not reappear on every page. Cleared when you close the tab.
Analytics cookies
Set only if you accept. They tell us which guides get read, how people arrive, and where they give up — which is how we decide what to write and what to fix. They do not tell us who you are.
Advertising cookies
Set only if you accept. Advertising partners may use them to limit how often you see the same advert and to measure whether an advert worked. Where they are used for personalised advertising, that is what your acceptance covers, and declining prevents it.
Cookies set by other sites
If a page embeds content from another service, that service may set its own cookies once the content loads. We keep embedded content to a minimum for exactly this reason.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings, independently of the choice you make here. Blocking essential cookies may stop the forms on this site working.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour Global Privacy Control signals as an opt-out where applicable law requires it.
