We want this site to be usable by everyone, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard alone, magnification, or a slow connection on an old phone.
What we have done
- The site works without JavaScript. The navigation menu, including on mobile, opens and closes using native HTML. Script is enhancement only — if it fails to load, the menu still works.
- Keyboard navigation. Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus outline, and a skip link to the main content.
- Semantic structure. Real headings in order, real lists, real tables with header cells, and one navigation landmark rather than several competing ones.
- Contrast. Text and interface colours are chosen to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast, and colour is never the only way something is communicated. Where a figure applies to one group of readers rather than another, that is stated in words as well as shown by a mark.
- Text that scales. Layout is built in relative units and reflows to 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- Reduced motion. Animation and smooth scrolling are disabled if your system asks for reduced motion.
- Readable measure. Body text is constrained to a comfortable line length, with margins that hold on the narrowest phones.
- No CAPTCHA. Our contact form is protected by methods that do not ask you to complete a visual puzzle.
Where we know we fall short
Some pages contain complex tables comparing figures across groups of readers. We have marked them up with proper header cells, but a wide table is inherently harder to follow linearly, and we are still working on a better presentation.
Content from third parties, such as advertising, is outside our control and may not meet the same standard.
